Wildcats VB close in on the top seed

By Jarann Johnson
Every team is trying to position themselves for a deep postseason run. The Center-Stanton Wildcats enhanced their odds at getting the top seed for the Region 5 tournament by topping Underwood 3-2 on the road last week.
Center-Stanton started last week in first place with a one-game lead but were in danger of losing their first place lead first two sets against Underwood. Underwood came out and won the first two sets of the match 25-15 and 25-18.
Now, Center-Stanton needed to figure out how to avoid a sweep. Center-Stanton came out strong and won Set 3 in dominant fashion 25-12. Underwood didn’t land the knockout punch in Set 3 but they looked close to landing it in Set 4.
The set was tied 24-24. If Underwood scored two consecutive points the match was over. Center-Stanton made sure not to let it happen and won the set 26-24, setting up a winner-take-all fifth set. Center-Stanton completed the comeback with a dominant performance, winning 15-4.
