Wildcats VB earn top seed

Tunes from 1974 didn’t fill the Center-Stanton High School gym after their 3-0 win over Flasher. But home fans knew their team was taking care of business, just like Bachman–Turner Overdrive’s famous 70s pop song.
Center-Stanton won the sets 25-17, 25-22 and 25-19 to secure the No. 1-seed for the Region 5 tournament next week.
Center-Stanton didn’t fool around in the first set and jumped out to a 19-9 lead. Flasher chipped away but Center-Stanton made sure to prevent the come-from-behind win. Amber Frank put down the set-winning point with a kill to end the game 25-17.
The next set was closer, without either team grabbing a commanding lead. Late in the set, the teams were tied 19-19. Center got three consecutive points from Amber Frank, which pushed their lead to 22-19.
Flasher broke Amber Frank’s run by forcing a hitting error out of bounds. But the side-out wasn’t enough to start a rally. Center-Stanton senior Mykaela Jacobson found her hitting rhythm and recorded two kills, including the set-winner, for a 25-22 win.
The last set started with a strong Flasher serving display. Faith Marion, a freshman, recorded two consecutive aces, pushing Flasher to a 2-0 lead. Center-Stanton didn’t panic and recovered, pushing themselves to an 11-6 lead on a Morgan Vitek kill.
