Wildcats VB falls at home

By Jarann Johnson

The Center-Stanton Wildcats knew that they were in for a tough game last Thursday. Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter, a Region 3 team, and Center-Stanton split the first two times they played each other this year.
Center-Stanton hosted the rubber match but couldn’t come out with the win. Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter won 3-0.
The first set was close early on. Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter led 5-4 and it seemed like both teams were headed for a competitive match. Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter went on a 5-0 run to gain control of the set.
Center-Stanton earned a sideout but couldn’t break Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter’s  hold on the set and faced a 13-6 deficit.
Center-Stanton Head Coach Janet Erhardt called a timeout hoping to help her team get back into the set but it didn’t work, and Erhardt called another timeout moments later.
Center-Stanton was down 21-9 when Erhardt called her second timeout of the match. The timeout worked this time and Center-Stanton went on an 8-2 run to get back in the game.
The run was capped by a kill from sophomore outside Morgan Vitek and cut Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter’s lead down to 22-17. Center-Stanton couldn’t quite pull off the come-from-behind win and fell 25-18, but they regained their confidence.
