Working over the break
By Jarann Johnson
Sometimes taking a break has a purpose. Center-Stanton’s girls basketball team is coming off a holiday break. They went without playing any games from Dec. 22-Jan. 4. Center-Stanton (5-3, overall) used the break to tidy up some areas before starting District 10 play.
Drew Erhardt, Center-Stanton’s head coach, said he focused on a few different areas during the break. Offensively, Erhardt wanted to work on attacking the basket and getting to the free-throw line. Being quick at transitioning from defense to offense was another focusing point during the break.
If Center-Stanton can increase the pace of the game, they’ll be able to take advantage of teams with less depth. Erhardt’s big-time transition goal is always having two players sprinting down the sideline. If Center-Stanton can get a few easy baskets in transition, it will force opponents to think twice about applying full-court pressure.
