Pears – Help yourself, please, say Driessens
By Suzanne Werre
Ralph Driessen has been giving his home-grown pears away for years.
This year, he’s hoping folks will just come on over to his and his wife Julie’s house and help themselves.
The Driessens and their rare pear trees were featured in a story in the News last summer.
Not too long after the story appeared, one of last year’s summer storms hit and their pear trees took a major hit.
“I had two pear trees last year – there’s only about one-and-a-half out there now,” said Ralph.
The damage hasn’t hurt the harvest, though, as the trees are laden with pears from bottom to top.
