The Underwood Comets girls basketball team played their season opening games at the Linton Shootout in both Hazelton and Linton last weekend. The Comets played a very athletic Napoleon team on Friday and met up with a good Linton team on Saturday afternoon. Both the JV and varsity had the opportunity to play. Head coach Toni Cottingham and her girls were excited about the first games of the season. "We are looking at a new batch of kids coming together," Cottingham stated. "I think the girls are unsure of each other and themselves." Although the games didn’t go the way the girls would have hoped, Cottingham felt that the girls showed great improvement from the beginning of each game until the end of each game. "Once we settled down we started to gain confidence," she said. "We had a tough time finding the bottom of the hoop. We had great opportunities but the shots just didn’t fall."
