Comets near 100 percent on serves

The Comets are still aiming for one of the top two positions in the district, taking a 3-1 record into this week’s action after picking up a 3-1 district win over Washburn, but losing their first district match of the season by falling to Center-Stanton 3-0 Thursday.
Playing Washburn on its home court last Tuesday, service was key as Underwood made good on more than 96 percent of their serves for the second match in a row.
While the Comets picked up the win, Underwood Coach Mary Hefta says the Comets need to work on their serve-receive if they hope to be in the top two when the district tournament rolls around the first week of November.
"That’s definitely an area we will need to improve upon if we’re going to be in the top two in district play," commented Hefta. "We had five girls with five-plus kills, and that continues to be an advantage."
Junior Brooke Weisenberger led the way offensively at the net with eight kills (as well as 21 digs on defense), while sophomores Mackenzie Snyder and McKenna Wilson were each good for seven kills.
"Both sophomores had seven kills each and are adding great depth to our team," said Hefta.
