Perfect mix sends Titans to state

The 2012 Section 6 American Legion baseball title rests in the hands of the Garrison-Max-Central McLean Titans. The boys in blue went 3-0 this past week in Crosby to claim the crown, defeating Makoti 7-6 in a nail-biter. A jubilant team returned home late Saturday afternoon, led by a Garrison Fire Department vehicle, sirens blaring. Climbing off the buses at the baseball diamond, the victorious Titans were greeted by a number of fans. Coach Tyler Modlin couldn’t say enough about how the team performed. He said the Titans have a special bond that’s hard to explain. “It’s just the electricity that the guys have and personalities … just everything falls into line,” he said. “It proves it’s a great bunch of guys and ball players.”  Reflecting on the championship game, Modlin said the team relied on its previous meeting against Makoti in the tournament (an 11-2 win) to establish a game plan. But the Mavericks came to play and didn’t go quietly.
