Erosion threatens history at Knife River Indian Villages

According to archaeologist Jay Sturdevant, the erosion he has seen at Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site near Stanton exceeds erosion seen anywhere else in the National Park Service’s Midwest Region this spring.

It’s that erosion that last week brought Sturdevant, an archaeologist for the NPS Midwest Archaeological Center in Lincoln, Neb., MAC intern Bill Altizer, and North Dakota State Historic Preservation Officer Fern Swensen to KRIV.
