North Stars looking for it

The North Stars Hockey team is 0-2 after the conclusion of the first week of the hockey season. The North Stars were shut out in their first game of the season against Mandan but managed to score in their second game of the season against Jamestown.

Records are meant to be broken. Everyone has heard that statement but few have actually enjoyed breaking it. The 2012 Hazen Bison football team enjoyed breaking seven Dakota bowl records during their Class A state championship victory.

Time is a hard thing to manage; It’s always with or against us. In last year’s state Class A semifinal game, time was against the Bison when they fell by one point to the Stanley Bluejays. Father time was on Hazen’s side in this year’s Class A state semifinal game.

Briar Bornemann will never be the biggest player on a football field but he will always attract attention. Despite the attention Lewis and Clark gave Bornemann he still maneuvered for five touchdowns in Hazen’s Class A opening round playoff win.

The announcer of the Glen Ullin and Hazen volleyball game made birthday announcements to two crowd members in the stands. But even birthday wishes failed to lift the Bison to victory in the Oct. 2 match. The Bison were swept in three closely contested sets.

Everybody hopes that they win the big homecoming game. The Bison not only won, they won in style. The final score of Friday’s homecoming game was 53-6 in favor of the Bison.

The Hazen Bison won the first set 35-33, but lost the match 3-2 (33-35, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-12). The Bison learned that the momentum in a game can change really quick Sept. 18 against Richardton-Taylor.

A rivalry game is supposed to have it all: close calls, high intensity, and of course fully invested fans. The Beulah Miners and Hazen Bison battled in a good ole’ fashion Coal Country volleyball rivalry showdown. Hazen won the first battle in this year’s war.

The Hazen Bison had a busy week. Two non-league games and a weekend tournament to end the week. The Bison started the week off strong with a home sweep against the Center-Stanton Wildcats.
