B-H XC wins multiple awards

By Jarann Johnson

Beulah-Hazen cross-country is well on its way. The B-H cross-country team competed in the Class B West Region meet Saturday and won numerous awards. The boys were second overall with four all-region runners and the girls were third overall with three all-region runners.
The B-H boys were led by Calvin Aichele with a seventh-place finish (17:53) and Jett Hettich finished as the team’s No. 2 runner with an eighth-place finish (18:09). Cole Messerschmidt finished in 18 minutes and 22 seconds in his first meet of the season for 11th-place.
B-H head coach Marry Hoherz, credited Messerschmidt’s finish to his hard work and effort over his first nine practices this season.
“He worked hard in those nine practices,” she said. “He stayed humble, he worked hard and he’s got some natural ability on him, we all know that. Yeah, he stepped up in real positive way but all those kids stepped up today. They all did well. It was a good day.”
Fifteen seconds after Messerschmidt’s finish, Brian Sitz, junior, came across the finish – he was 13th overall (18:36). The final scoring runner for B-H was Colin Johnson. Johnson took 27th place (19:29). The first four runners to finish for Beulah earned all-region honors because they finished in the top 20. Other runners for the boys were Aaron Hushka (19:57), Adam Becker (20:03) and Josten Hafner (20:25).
