The Hazen Basketball teams both started Region 7 play last week. The girls lost to defending Region 7 champions Dickinson Trinity and the boys topped Bowman County in overtime.
The Hazen girls were close to knocking off Trinity at home but couldn’t get over the hump. Raquel Doll led Hazen in the loss with 12 points. Grace Zimmerman (9 points) and Elise Hintz (7 points) were the only two other players who scored more than two baskets in the game.
The boys had better luck in their Region 7 opener but it didn’t look great early on. Hazen ended the first quarter up by one point, 11-10, but improved their lead in the second quarter to 26-16.
Hazen didn’t slow down in the third quarter and moved their lead to 43-28. The game looked like it was pretty much over and Hazen was going to get an easy win heading into the fourth quarter. But the fourth quarter was anything but easy.
