Beulah-Hazen wrestling has big week
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah-Hazen wrestling team started and ended their week well. The start of the week saw Beulah-Hazen win two duals at Standing Rock and the end of the week saw Beulah-Hazen place nine wrestlers at their home invite.
Beulah-Hazen topped Standing Rock 60-16 and New Salem-Almont 40-34 during their road duals and took 3rd at their home invite. The invite was highlighted by Jeremy Leintz and Damian Eslinger’s championship wins.
Leintz, a 113-pounder, received byes for the first two rounds but didn’t come out slow in the semifinals. Leintz faced Maverick Martin, Legacy, and earned a tech fall winning the match 21-6.
A tougher test awaited Leintz in the finals. Alex Kaseman, a Bismarck senior who placed 3rd at state last year, wanted to be the first North Dakotan to knock Leintz off.
Leintz wasn’t going to let it happen on his own mat and won 4-2 for champion honors. The win boosted Leintz to 30-2 on the season.
