Beulah-Hazen XC feels out Bowman course
By Jarann Johnson
The Beulah-Hazen cross-country team went to the Bowman meet last week. The goal for the Bowman meet was to become familiar with the site of the Class B West Regional course. Bowman will host the regional meet on October 14.
The boys and girls teams both finished in 5th place at the meet.
The girls had three top 25 placers at the meet. Beulah-Hazen junior Baylee Vondra led the way finishing the 5K (3.1 Miles) course in 23 minutes and 47.84 seconds for 19th place overall.
Beulah-Hazen senior Katie Duttenhefer was one place behind Vondra, earning 20th overall (24:10.44). Shenise Klein, an eighth-grader, also had a strong day for the girls finishing in the top 25. Klein took 23rd overall, finishing the course in 24:28.
The last Beulah-Hazen finisher in the varsity girls race was Erin Walcker. Walcker, a junior, was just outside of the top 25 taking 26th in 24:54. The Beulah-Hazen girls didn’t have a No. 5 runner, which hurt their overall score.
Beulah-Hazen head coach Mary Hoherz seemed unfazed by her team’s need of a No. 5-Runner. Hoherz was excited after the race about her foursome’s performance.
