Beulah tops Hazen in legion opener
By Jarann Johnson
Beulah and Hazen met last Friday in their Legion opener. Beulah got the best of their rivals collecting a 13-1 non-conference away win in a single 9-inning game.
Dawson Beiber got Beulah their first run of the game in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly. Tayden Doe, Beulah’s starting pitcher, faced a challenge in the bottom frame with a Hazen base runner on third. But Doe quickly ended the problem with two strikeouts.
Beulah fans hoped their team could keep their momentum going in the top of the second. Hazen starting pitcher Payton Leintz was hoping to escape a bases-loaded situation. Leintz needed one more out to escape the inning but Trey Brandt wouldn’t allow it.
Brandt hit a one-run single lifting Beulah to a 2-0 lead. Trapper Sklaskly followed with a 3-run single, putting Beulah up 5-0. Hazen didn’t respond in the bottom frame and the game entered the top of the third with Beulah holding their 5-0 lead.
