Big inning gives Hazen win
By Jarann Johnson
Baseball games can change in an instant. Last week Hazen trailed by two but a big third inning rally helped them collect an important home conference win over Stanley 10-4.
Hazen entered the bottom of the third trailing by two runs, 2-0. They needed a spark and it came late in the batting order. Braeden Zuern drew a leadoff walk and Brandon Snyder followed by reaching base. Hazen No.1-batter Isaac Doll approached the batter’s box with no outs and base runners on first and second base.
Doll delivered a two-run triple, tying the game at 2-2. Hunter Keller followed with another run-producing hit. Keller hit a one-run single, giving Hazen a 3-2 lead.
Hazen’s bats stayed hot after taking the lead.
Thomas Leintz hit a one-run single, Steven Baardson added a two-run single moving Hazen’s lead to 6-2. Hazen wasn’t finished with their offensive spurt. Stanley gave up four more runs. One of the runs given up was a balk and the others were recorded on a 3-run homer by Doll.
After Doll’s huge hit Hazen led 10-2. Hazen fans felt comfortable with their big lead. But danger approached in the top of the fifth inning.
