Bison start season 3-0 after shootout

That is the best way to describe the game plan of the 3-0 Bison girls’ basketball team after their first holiday tournament action last weekend.

Intense offense, intense defense, intense all around play. And first-year head coach Leland Opp wouldn’t have had it any other way as the Bison traveled to the Hoopster Shootout at the Bismarck Civic Center last Friday.

And in the first quarter, Hazen did what it needed to in order to get by as they outscored the Spoilers 8-6. The Bison kept control of the ball in the second quarter with four consecutive steals, converting four points.

"We have been taking proper angles on the press to be more effective," Opp said.

The Bison were playing well but not flawless as they gave up a few opportunities and Grafton used them to even the score 12-12. Breaunna Oakland and Sarah Grimm each added a bucket to move the score to 18-14 at halftime.

"We just have a balanced attack. Each night we have several kids stepping up in the scoring column," Opp said. "Different kids are grabbing rebounds and steals. We can go eight deep no problem. It’s nice having a balanced attack, offensively and defensively."
