Bison track doing great
By Jarann Johnson
Most track and field teams are happy to get one first place finish at a track meet. Last week it seemed like first place finishes were growing on trees for the the Hazen Bison. They picked up 13 combined first place finishes at the New Salem Invite and Badlands conference meet last week.
Badlands Conference meet
The highlight for the boys team was the shot put and discus. The Bison finished 1-2-6 in the shot put. Austin Cieslak, senior, led the way tossing the shot 49 feet and 2 inches. That mark ties Elijah Grady’s mark for state best in the event.
Ceislak also took first in the discus leading a 1-2-6 effort for the Bison. Cieslak’s throw of 154-04 is second best in the state. Grady has a throw of 161-02 and is leading the state in Class B.
Seth Kreil also had a strong day, taking second in the shot put and discus. He threw 125-04 in the discus and 49-08 in the shot put. There’s only two throwers with further shot put tosses in Class B, Grady and Cieslak.
Hunter Fears was the last Bison to score in both events. He threw the discus 117-02 and threw the shot 41-02. The Bison had six other placers at the meet for the boys’ team.
