By Jarann Johnson
The Bison gave home fans an exciting game but came up short of a win, falling 56-53.
Early on the Bison had control of the game. They were up 6-2 but then Underwood countered and grabbed the lead. Abby Landenberger, senior starting point guard, scored a 2-pointer, giving Underwood a 9-6 lead with 5 minutes and 13 seconds left in the first period.
The Bison didn’t let Underwood take full control of the game though. Dakota Wood, junior guard, forced a turnover and raced to the bucket for a layup, making the score 9-8. The game stayed close, roughly a minute later it was tied 10-10. Underwood split a pair of free throws and Hazen got a 2-pointer from senior starting guard Mariya Schneider.
The first period ended in a 14-14 tie and the second period followed with a similar fate. At the end of the second quarter the score was tied 25-25. There were four lead changes in the period and three ties.
The final points of the period came from Bison senior post Kendra Slaubaugh. Slabaugh scored and was fouled with her team trailing 25-22. After the shot Slaubaugh made her free throw, tying the game 25-25.
