Cross country team takes on 2 meets
By Jarann Johnson
Last week was a busy week for the Beulah-Hazen cross-country team. The team faced the challenge of competing at two meets in one week.
First up for the Beulah-Hazen team was the Stanley Invite. The boys won the invite and the girls took third overall.
Isak Olson, sophomore, won the race for the boys in 18 minutes and 10 seconds, which was the fastest Beulah-Hazen five kilometer (3.1 Miles) time of the season. Olson’s pace for the course was 5:50 per mile.
Dayton Fiddler, freshman, followed in a personal best time of 18:32 for second place. Junior Jacob Weigel also ran well, taking third (18:51).
The girls also saw some regular season personal bests. Katie Duttenhefer led Beulah-Hazen with a fifth place finish (22:35). Duttenhefer’s pace per mile was 7:16.
Erin Walcker also finished in the top 10, taking ninth overall (24:20). Baylee Vondra finished 13th overall with a time of 25:27.
The real task for Beulah-Hazen was repeating a strong performance at the bigger Mandan Kiwanis meet. The Kiwanis meet features teams from both classes and runners from all over the state.
