Curing the 5th inning fallout

Over the course of a season, coaches try to ingrain habits into their players so their body is ready to just instinctively react when a situation calls for it. Unfortunately for the Hazen American Legion baseball team, bad habits are learned the same way – and often are much more difficult to break.

After gaining early leads twice last week, the Astros allowed their opponents to battle back and steal half their wins – but not the half that counts toward the Section 8 standings.

Hazen 8, Hettinger 6

Alex Barfield was on the mound, holding Hettinger down most of the way through the fourth inning Thursday after Hazen opened with a five-run first. By the top of the fifth inning, however, a stolen base and a fumbled fly ball near the left field line saw a change on the scoreboard.
