Hazen Astros dominating

By Jarann Johnson
The Hazen Astros haven’t been playing well. They haven’t been playing above average either. They have simply been dominating this summer. Last week the Astros added three more wins to their record with the most impressive being a 15-0 win at home over Renville County Thursday.
Mason Wiedrich got the start against Renville County and pitched a shutout with plenty of run support. Wiedrich didn’t have to wait long for run support after holding Renville County scoreless in the first inning. Three consecutive walks set up Chase Bruner with a great bases-loaded at-bat.
Bruner didn’t disappoint, hitting a short double near the left field foul line that cleared the bases. Bruner’s hit scored three runners and helped get the Astros off to a strong first inning. But in the top of the second they found themselves in a little bit of trouble.
Wiedrich allowed consecutive leadoff doubles to start the top frame, but then Wiedrich and the defense went to work. Wiedrich got the first out of the inning with a strikeout and the defense turned a double-play, keeping Renville County scoreless.
The Astros kept putting pressure on Renville County in the bottom frame and scored five more runs. Tyler Borlaug hit a one-run single, Collin Maas beat a throw to first – allowing another run to score – and Bruner batted in another run by taking a pitch to the body.
