Hazen bats stay hot

By Jarann Johnson

The Hazen Astros have had a strong summer, getting out to a 17-1 record. Last Wednesday the Astros showed their hometown fans just how dominating they are by sweeping Surrey 19-1 and 10-4.
Hazen earned their first run of the game the hard way in the bottom of the first. Connor Doll led off the inning by getting on base because of an error. Then Doll stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an error during Nate Leintz’s at-bat.
After Doll’s hard work run, the offense came easily for the Astros. After Leintz’s at-bat, an Astro reached base on a walk putting Surrey in an unfavorable spot. The bases were loaded with one out.
Austin Cieslak was walked making the score 2-0 and Chase Bruner followed with a two-run double near the left field foul-line, making the score 4-0. Austin Hintz followed Bruner by driving in two more runs.
