Hazen boys close but no cigar
By Jarann Johnson
Hazen’s boys team came close to upsetting DLB last Friday. Hazen was up 13-12 after the first period but they couldn’t hold off DLB’s second half 3-point attack and fell at home 65-57.
Hazen and Des Lacs-Burlington (DLB) battled in the first quarter without either team gaining a big lead. After the end of the first quarter Hazen led 13-12. Both teams remained close to each and matched scores at 18-18.
DLB got back-to-back 3-pointers from senior guard John Koronka to go up 24-18. Hazen didn’t let the hot streak ruin their half and fought back. Hazen junior guard scored a 2-pointer to break DLB’s streak and had a chance to tie the game moments later.
Zuern got the ball and attacked the hoop. Zuern’s layup rolled out of the hoop before the half. DLB went into the halftime break up 24-22.
Hazen came out of the break hoping to tie the game. DLB sophomore Dante Gunville made sure Hazen’s hopes were pushed away. Gunville scored 11 points in the third period, doing most of his damage with 3, 3-pointers.
