Hazen falls to Heart River in four

By Jarann Johnson

Hazen just couldn’t get over the hump against Heart River at home last week. Hazen was tied or led in every set against Heart River but only took one set in the match, falling 3-1: 25-21, 25-17, 27-25 and 25-21.
Hope Ternes, junior,  recorded an ace to start the match. But her team didn’t have an easy route to victory. They found themselves in a tough set. Both teams fought to a 6-6 tie then a 12-12 tie. Hazen trailed 18-15 and needed a small run to force another tie.
Madison Paul, Hazen junior, earned a kill then Heart River committed a hitting error, which cut Heart River’s lead to 18-17. Heart River didn’t let Hazen come all the way back and tie the set, getting a kill from McKenzie Buckman to for a 19-17 lead.
After getting the lead Heart River didn’t look back, capturing a 25-21 win. Set 2 started similarly with Hazen edging to an early 10-7 lead after Hazen senior Tia Bornemann’s ace. Hazen couldn’t hold on to their small lead though.
