Hazen finishes second at state

By Jarann Johnson

The American Legion Class B State Tournament was far from ordinary. The first day of the tournament was cancelled and the tournament was restructured to a four-day format.
Hazen made it to the final day of the tournament and faced off against Carrington, the tournament host, for the state championship title. The championship matchup would be the third matchup between Hazen and Carrington in the tournament.
Hazen and Carrington’s first meeting in the tournament was on the winner’s side in round two. Neither team could effectively pitch in the game and combined for 21 walks. Both teams combined for five homers and the game ended 19-14 in Carrington’s favor.
The second time Carrington and Hazen met was the next day. A Hazen loss would put Carrington into the finals with no losses and a Hazen win would mean Carrington would face the winner of Hazen vs. Kindred in a winner-take-all game.
