Hazen gets some season bests at state

By Jarann Johnson

Coaches enter state track with two goals, place kids and have some season-best marks. Hazen got some season-best marks but it was hard for them to push state placers across the podium.
Garrett Ward, junior, had a great state tournament, going to the podium twice and walking away from the state meet with two season-bests. Ward came into the discus with a second flight seed, which meant there were 16 throwers with better seeds than him.
Ward bested his rivals for a finals spot and took sixth in the discus with a throw of 140 feet, 9 inches.
He made a huge jump in the triple jump. Ward came into the event in the second flight. There were four total flights, so making the finals was going to be a challenge with 14 jumpers seeded better than Ward. Ward advanced to finals and took seventh overall with a season-best of 42-04.
