Hazen girls fall short

By Jarann Johnson

Every off-season, players push themselves through workouts and extra practices because they believe that the extra work will help push their team to the state tournament. Thursday night the Hazen Bison had a chance to deposit all of their muscle-hardening work for a state tournament berth in the Region 7 finals against Dickinson Trinity.
Something went awry during the Bison’s workout deposit and they fell 60-53 in Dickinson Trinity’s home gym. Things weren’t quite clicking for the Bison from the start of the game.
The Bison missed their first four shots of the game and committed a travel on their sixth possession. Meanwhile, the Titan offense was off to a strong start and up 6-0.
The Bison didn’t panic and responded with a 3-point play by junior guard Steph Ziegler. The junior guard’s great play was countered by a bucket from Trinity junior forward Alanna Sickler, making Trinity’s lead 8-3.
Hazen got a 3-pointer from senior guard Dakota Wood, cutting Trinity’s lead down to 8-6, but couldn’t break Trinity’s hold on the lead before the end of the quarter and trailed 14-10 at the end of the first.
