Hazen Legion moves to 6-2

By Jarann Johnson

Six wins and two losses is a great early season start to the summer Legion baseball season. Hazen picked up wins last week against Bottineau and Renville County.
The home win against Renville wasn’t pretty. Hazen was credited for 10 errors in the game and trailed in the bottom of the sixth 15-11. Hazen overcame their sloppy play by being patient in the batter’s box.
Hazen recorded four walks in the inning. Three of the walks brought in crucial runs, which cut Renville’s lead to 15-14. Chase Bruner approached the plate next for Hazen.
Bruner was 0-for-3 before his at bat but made his only hit of the game count, smacking a 2-run single to left field. Bruner’s at-bat put Hazen up 16-15 heading into the top of the seventh. Jayce Zuern closed out the game for Hazen and preserved the lead.
