Hazen Post 189 picks up counter win

By Jarann Johnson

Hazen picked up an important region counter win at home against Hettinger last week. They narrowly missed out on a sweep falling in the nightcap 6-5.
Jayce Zuern started for Hazen at pitcher during the counter and retired Hettinger’s first two batters of the game. Zuern’s push for a 1-2-3 start to the game ended when his team committed a fielding error. Hazen’s defensive error didn’t hurt and Zuern finished off the inning without giving up a score.
Hazen tried to score in the bottom of the first but had no luck. Isaac Doll led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. But Hettinger starter, Mason DeFoe, didn’t panic. He battled two consecutive 3-2 counts against Zuern and Payton Leintz and retired both batters.
