Hazen rally falls short against Beulah
By Jarann Johnson
Hazen struggled to overcome Beulah’s first inning outburst last week. Beulah scored 4 first inning runs and Hazen tried to play catch up all night before suffering a 12-5 road defeat.
Jayce Zuern started for Hazen at pitcher and ran into trouble early. Beulah’s first two batters of the game reached base on walks. Then No. 3-batter Aaron Vallejo was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Brayden Moore homered a 1-1 pitch putting Beulah up 4-0 in the bottom of the first.
Moore did more damage in the bottom of the second, hitting a 2-run triple. Moore’s hit put Beulah up 6-0 after two innings. Hazen needed to make a rally if they were going to prevent a 10-run mercy rule defeat. They got the chance to respond strongly in the top of the third.
