Hazen takes 3rd in gold

By Jarann Johnson
The Hazen volleyball team started their season off with a strong start, taking third at the Coal Country Invite last weekend. Hazen didn’t lose a match during pool play, and their only tournament loss was to the tournament champs.
Hazen started the day off with a game against Bishop Ryan, which was their closest pool play game of the day.
Hazen won the first set 25-15 and hung on to earn the sweep with a 25-23 win in the second set. Next up for Hazen was Richardton-Taylor. Richardton-Taylor gave Hazen a scare in the first set but couldn’t eek out a win. The set went to Hazen 25-21.
Richardton-Taylor fell in the second set 25-18.
After two games Hazen was guaranteed a spot in the Gold Division tournament. The only question was whether Hazen would be the No.1-seed from their region or the No. 2-seed from their region.
Hazen had to finish off Stanley with a win or split to earn the top seed from their pool. Hazen swept Stanley 25-13 and 25-17 to earn the No. 1-seed from their pool to the Gold Division.
