Hazen track accomplishes mission

By Jarann Johnson

Everyone pondered it from the start of the season. Could Hazen 4-peat as state track and field champions. Last Saturday at the Bismarck Community Bowl Hazen answered that question strongly.
Grace Zimmerman, senior, was the key to Hazen’s 4-peat. Zimmerman took the 100-meter, 200, and 400 crowns at the state track meet. Zimmerman’s 400 time was 56.50 seconds, which is a new school record and state meet record.
Zimmerman’s time is astounding considering she had just finished the 100 and had less than 20 minutes to prepare for the 400. There was some fear during the state track meet for Hazen fans.
Katie Duttenhefer, senior, didn’t qualify for finals in the 100 or 200, which meant Hazen wasn’t going to get some points most figured the team would get. Duttenhefer helped out in a different way. She anchored Hazen’s 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.
