Hazen VB can’t hold off Titans

By Jarann Johnson

Sometimes there are sporting events where introductions aren’t needed. When the Hazen Bison and Dickinson Trinity Titans met up last week, fans didn’t need introductions.
The game was an important battle for the top seed in the Region 7 tournament. Hazen led the match 2-1 but couldn’t hold off Trinity and fell 3-2: 25-22,17-25, 23-25, 25-14, and 15-13.
Dickinson Trinity gained an early 9-6 lead in the first set after a serving error by Hazen senior Morgan Hochsprung. The small lead looked like it was going to spurt into a bigger lead, but Hazen countered with a 3-0 run, tying the set at 9-9 on a kill by junior Grace Zimmerman.
Hazen added two more points, grabbing an 11-9 lead before Dickinson Trinity Head Coach Breanna Messer called a timeout. Messer’s timeout spurred a 6-0 Trinity run, which gave her team a 15-11 lead.
