Hazen volleyball sweeps week

By Jarann Johnson

The Hazen Bison started off their week in an uncomfortable situation. Hazen faced New Salem on the road on a very hot day.
The heat and road didn’t stop the Bison from doing what they wanted to though. Hazen opened the week with a 3-0 sweep over New Salem.
The first set started out at a typical pace but strong serving changed the match. Hazen jumped out to an early lead and led 10-6 and Kayla Lindquist approached the serving line for Hazen.
Lindquist recorded four consecutive aces, giving Hazen a 14-6 lead. After Lindquist’s hard serving it was hard for New Salem to recover.
New Salem lost the set 25-12. The set point was a kill by Krista Slaubaugh.
The second set of the game started greatly for Hazen too. Hazen jumped out to a 9-2 lead after a Raquel Doll ace.
Hazen didn’t slow down during the set, winning 25-15.
The third set of the night was the toughest for the Bison. Early on it didn’t seem like New Salem was going to budge.
The score was tied five times in the early goings of the match. At 7-7 Hazen created the separation they needed to win the game.
Eva Byerley keyed a six-point run with a kill. The six-point rally also included two aces by Steph Ziegler and put Hazen up 13-7.
