Hazen wins critical game

By Jarann Johnson

The Hazen Bison are trying to position themselves for a favorable Region 8 tournament seed. Thursday they hosted Hettinger-Scranton and came one step closer to securing a top three seed.
Hazen topped Hettinger-Scranton 10-4 in the Region 8 counter, but fell in the non-counter 16-9.
Jayce Zuern, a Hazen sophomore, started the region counter at pitcher. Zuern’s start was a little tough. He surrendered a 1-run single to Hettinger sophomore Bo Wilson.
Zuern didn’t allow any other damage but it put Hazen down by one run in an important game. Hettinger held on to their early lead getting two scoreless innings from junior Jarad Mattis.
Hazen made their move on Mattis in the bottom of the third. Hazen leadoff batter Brandon Snyder was hit by a pitch. Snyder, a freshman, stole second base which put the tying run in scoring position.
Jeremy Leintz, a Hazen senior, couldn’t bring Snyder in, striking out. Hazen had two more tries to tie the game. Snyder made things easier for his team by stealing third base.
