Step one: beat Southern McLean. Step two: beat Southern McLean. Step three: beat Killdeer and play in the state playoffs. Last weekend Hazen accomplished step two of their season mission, topping Southern McLean 24-0 at home.
Tyson Van Inwagen put Hazen ahead with an 11-yard tourchdown run in the first period. The rest of the period was silent for both teams. Hazen took their 6-0 lead into the second quarter hoping to expand it.
Hazen accomplished their expansion goals, scoring 18 second quarter points. Payton Leintz, senior QB, threw two touchdown passes and kicked a 29-yard field goal to cap the run.
Hazen’s big second quarter streak put them up 24-0 heading into halftime. Hazen kept up their defensive shut down effort and won the game 24-0.
After the game Hazen head coach Bret Johnsrud said a lot of players made key plays and the offensive line did a great job of executing off-tackle running plays. Johnsrud said his team didn’t hesitate and played faster.
