Linton Holiday tourney offers wrestlers challenges
By Jarann Johnson
Coaches always say the regular season is preparation for the postseason. Last week Beulah-Hazen wrestlers got some strong preparation at the 2-day Linton Holiday tournament. Beulah-Hazen had two wrestlers make the tournament semifinals.
Tyler Erickson (170) had the strongest display at the tournament. Erickson opened the tournament with a bye. Next, Erickson took care of his first two opponents, topping Brandon Ledahl (Mon-Dak) 11-8 and Peyton Grunefelder (Napoleon) 6-5. The wins gave Erickson a spot in the tournament semifinals. Erickson couldn’t top Isaac Anderson (Hettinger) and fell 10-6. Erickson’s set back was his first of the year and changed his focus.
Now, Erickson was focused on taking third place instead of maintaining a perfect record. Erickson took care of Bridger Mathern (Ellendale-Edgeley-Kulm) 5-3 to reach the 3rd place match. Erickson finished off the tournament strongly with a 4-2 win over Coy Spooner (Des Lacs-Burlington). Erickson ended the week at 12-1.
