Miner wrestling opens season 1-1

The Miner Wrestlers started out their season traveling to Minot for a triangular against the Bishop Ryan Lions and the Harvey Hornets last week. After the Harvey-Ryan dual, the night began with the Miners taking on the Hornets.

Seventh-grader Alex Krebs started off the evening for the Miners in an exhibition match. Krebs pinned the Harvey competitor in 38 seconds.

Another seventh-grader, Ty Horning, had his first exhibition match of the night. Horning was taken down, and at the end of the second period, it was a very close 3-4. Horning lost 3-9.

Starting off the varsity wrestling was 119-pound junior Jordon Mann wrestling senior Nick Kelly. Mann had a tough contender and he was pinned in 3:58.

At 125 pounds seventh-grader Evan Mellmer took on eighth-grader Tanner Keller and lost by a technical fall (which is 15 points). The Miners were down 0-11. The Miners gave the Hornets four open weight classes (130-145), with them only giving Beulah one. This made the score 6-35.

At 152 pounds, Hazen junior Jared Weinand wrestled sophomore Aaron Ponzer. Weinand had a good first period and pinned Ponzer in 1:52.
