State volleyball preview

By Jarann Johnson

The Hazen volleyball team earned a top-four seed at the Class B state tournament in Minot, which means that the coaches at the state tournament believe that Hazen is one of the top four teams at the tournament.
The coaches’ vote for who they believe are the top teams and can’t cast a vote for themselves. After the vote is complete, the top four teams are given a seed and the unseeded teams are randomly drawn to match up the seeded and unseeded teams for first round games.
No. 4-seeded Hazen was matched up with unseeded Grant County (27-6) for the last game of the opening round on Thursday evening at 8 p.m. Here’s what fans need to know about Grant County: they have won two consecutive Region 7 titles and will be making their second consecutive state tournament appearance.
The key to Grant County’s success is senior Sydney Bentz. The all-state 5-11 middle blocker is the go-to player that Grant County will lean on when things get tough.
