Wrestling Team goes 1-1 in Triangular
By Jarann Johnson
Last week the Beulah-Hazen wrestling team headed to Harvey for a Triangular Dual just before Thanksgiving Day. B-H won one of the duals and lost the other.
Beulah-Hazen fell to Bishop Ryan 43-24 and defeated Harvey-Wells County 60-17.
Beulah-Hazen started with a good showing in the lightweight classes against Bishop Ryan. Brandon Snyder, starter at 106, picked up a 4 minute and 46 second pin over Chase Burke, then Jeremy Leintz, starter at 113, followed with a 3:42 pin over Conner LeDoux.
The great start gave Beulah-Hazen 12 points, but the significant lead wouldn’t hold. Murphy Lipp won a 14-1 major over Rylan Sago, recording four dual points for his squad. A Beulah-Hazen forfeit at 126 cut Buelah’s lead in the dual to 12-10.
Ethan Lagge, starter at 132, came up big with a 51 second pin over Hunter Johnson making the score 18-10 in favor of Beulah-Hazen. Lagge’s pin wasn’t enough to spur Beulah-Hazen on a match-winning spree.
Mason Merck earned a pin at 138 over Jacob Scheer to pull Bishop Ryan back within two points, 18-16. A double-forfeit negated scores at 145 and left the match close.
As the dual approached the heavier weights, the dual started to favor Bishop Ryan. Ryan grabbed the lead with a close win at 152.
Returning state-placer Josh Snyder couldn’t figure out how to score against Aaron Sandy and fell 1-0. The close loss gave Bishop Ryan three points, and gave them a 19-18 dual score lead.
An injury win at 160 – Tyrel Mellmer was called for injury time against Konner Beeter – hurt Beulah-Hazen’s comeback attempt. Beeter’s win gave Bishop Ryan a 25-18 lead.
