XC tunes up before state

By Jarann Johnson

Last week, the Beulah-Hazen cross-country team ran their last race before the state meet. The final race before the state meet was a three-kilometer (1.86-mile) tune-up hosted by Killdeer. Most cross-country races are 5 kilometers (3.1 miles).
The shorter tune-up race went well for Beulah-Hazen. The boys took second overall with two top 10 finishers and the girls took sixth with one top 10 finisher.
The boys were led by Ian Busche, 8th grader, and junior Isak Olson. Busche finished the course in 11 minutes and 30 seconds, which was fast enough for 9th place overall. Olson followed two seconds behind for tenth place (11:32).
Senior Beulah-Hazen runner Jacob Weigel was nearby his teammates, finishing in 11:37 for 12th place. Beulah-Hazen’s final scoring spots went to Roy Morsette (12:03) and Garrett Mahin (12:17). Morsette, a freshman, was 19th overall and Mahin, a junior, was 22nd overall.
