Wilton, home of the most intense high school volleyball fans in the state, also happened to be the host of the District 10 volleyball tournament this year.
This year, Washburn has a group of five seniors on the team, all playing significant minutes during the season: Lindsey Wicklander, Samantha Tweeten, Allison Weisgarber, Candace Ankenbauer, and Samantha Tweeten.
One all but looking ahead to a play-off match-up less than a week away and the other taking the field for their definite last game of the year -- those were the two teams that met last Tuesday in Wilton to close out the regular season.
This past weekend it was the varsity’s turn to wake up early on a Saturday morning, head up to the Washburn High School gym, and play volleyball for nearly nine straight hours.
If the Washburn Cardinal football team needed a measure of both how far they’ve come and how much further they need to go before the playoffs, their game against the Beach Buccaneers on Friday would be the perfect measuring stick.
