Just a few days out from the start of the district tournament in Turtle Lake, the Cardinal volleyball team headed across the river to take on regional opponent Center-Stanton for the final game of the regular season.
The last regular season contest came in the form of a rivalry game between the Washburn Cardinals and the Wilton-Wing Miners.
It was another weekend and another volleyball invitational for teams to gather and inadvertently hit volleyballs at spectators seated along the ends of the tightly-packed courts.
The Washburn volleyball team would play host to both the Grant County Coyotes and the Beulah Miners at home this past week. Despite some promising sparks in both games, the Cardinals would win only one set in two games to end the week still winless on the season.
The Wilton-Wing football team wasted no time in showing that they are a team to be contended with this year by topping the Shiloh Skyhawks in exciting fashion for the season opener.
