The Washburn Cardinals played at home against the Harvey Hornets Tuesday the 19th. At their last home game, there were some technical difficulties regarding the National Anthem. However, things ran smoothly this time. Two seniors on the team, McKenzie Baumann and Dani Wood sang the Star Spangled Banner to kick off the game.
The first point of the game came from a kill from Wood. The Hornets came to an early lead and remained steady throughout the set. Within this set was an ace by Kiara Strickland. Harvey won the set 25-10.
The second set was much closer, as Washburn focused in. Jenna Retterath led the set with two back to back aces. The next point of Washburn’s came from a kill from McKenzie Baumann. Harvey caught up soon and regained the lead 12-10. With a tip from Gracey Russell and a kill from Wood, the Cardinals caught back up and tied 18-18. This was the best set of the game for the Cardinals; it seemed as though everyone on the team contributed towards their score. Of those people were Emily Russell with an ace and Madelyn Jennings with a kill. Washburn won this set 25-20. It was their first won set at home this season.
