Cardinals finish schedule with loss and win
By Adam Thomas
Looking for a boost going into the district tournament, the Cardinal girls finished off their season schedule with games against the Max Cossacks and the Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks.
Although the Cardinal girls lost their last district matchup of the season against Max, 46-36, they finished off strong in their final game of the year with a 46-38 win against M-L-S.
Although they had put together an impressive record coming into the game at 11-4 on the year, the Max Cossacks have had problems against their district opponents. Taking losses against TLMM, Underwood and Garrison, the Cossacks also just barely skimmed by Wilton-Wing in overtime.
But even though this Washburn Cardinal team is one that has the ability to take opponents off guard, the Cossacks had the comeback power they needed in this matchup.
Washburn broke out to a 10-4 lead after the first quarter and managed to stay one possession ahead going into halftime, 23-20.
But the shoe was on the other foot in the second half.
