Joining other towns and military branches in celebrating the Memorial Day observance under heavy skies, the Goodrich American Legion again honored both the Denhoff and Goodrich fallen veterans with a service at the respective cemeteries. Lacey Piper played “Taps” for the rituals.
Following the Denhoff ceremony at 9:15 a.m., the service for both towns was held at the Goodrich School gymnasium by the Albert Block Post #56 American Legion members and  Legion Auxiliary.
Accompanist for the event was Loretta Baumbach and the audience participated in the National Anthem, the Pledge to the Flag, and sang “America” and “God Bless America.”
Special selections included: “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Goodrich grade school students and Legion Commander Merwyn Krein on guitar; a reading “Memorial Day, a Sweep of History… and Heroism” by Karen Feickert; a violin solo, “America the Beautiful” by Daisy Tripp; and a trumpet solo “When the Saints go Marching in,” by Lacey Piper.
CH (LTC) David L. Johnson, Staff Chaplain/Deputy JFHQ Chaplain, North Dakota Army National Guard spoke to the Goodrich Memorial Day crowd that gathered at the Goodrich School gymnasium to honor those who have died in service to their country.
Johnson stated that everyone was also there so that what has been done is not forgotten.  This is a portion of what he said this past Monday.
“And what is it that we don’t want to forget? Military members who have served and who have now passed on.
