Moose license numbers get a boost

McLean County hunters will have better odds at snagging a moose license for this year’s hunting season as an additional 55 local licenses are being added to this year’s lottery.
“I’ve been in discussion with Game and Fish and we’re going to get a bump in our moose licenses again this year,” McLean County State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson said at the March 7 county commission meeting. “We’ve just had a dramatic increase in the moose population in the last 5, 6, 7 years.”
With a rise in moose numbers impacting much of North Dakota, the state’s Game and Fish Department is giving a significant lift to the number of available licenses for this fall’s season. According to a representative of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, a total of 334 moose licenses will be available this year, up 89 from the 2017 season. It’s a significant jump from the 131 licenses in the state lottery in 2015.
