Girls finish 19th, boys 18th at Valley City
The Garrison Trooper cross-country team finished its season at the State Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Bjornson Park Public Golf Course in Valley City.
Weather conditions were an added hazard, not so much with the temperature of 44 degrees but with the addition of rain. The rain created a slippery course with sections of muddy trails to maneuver.
The varsity Class B girls ran the second race of the day and were the first group to have rain added to their 4000-meter race. There were a total of 177 runners who completed the course. Trooper seventh grader Robyn Essler maneuvered the course in a time of 17:11 for a 37th place finish. This was Robyn’s best time for the season at this distance. Junior Jaimee White Bear conquered the course in a time of 18:06.57 for a 83rd place finish. Even with the added challenge of the weather, this was Jaimee’s best time for the season. Seventh grader Jessica Dimitch finished the course in a time of 23:04 for 172nd place. The girls’ team of three plus two ghost runners finished 19th out of 35 teams.
By the time the varsity Class B boys ran the last race of the day, their 5000 meters acquired many slippery corners and muddy spots that the boys had to conquer. There were a total of 176 runners who completed the course. Junior Trooper runner Jonathan Price maneuvered the weather challenged course in a time of 17:39.52 for an 11th place finish. This time was a 20-second improvement over his previous run on this course five weeks previous where the weather conditions were less of a challenge. With Jonathan’s finish in the top 20 runners, he achieved being named to the All State team. This is his second year in a row for accomplishing this feat.
