Spring sports on hold

Spring sports on hold
By STU MERRY

It’s all about the wait. But the weight of the wait can sometimes be overbearing.
That’s the case with the high school spring sports season.
This time last year, area teams should be in mid-season form. This year, not a ball has been thrown nor a golf ball hit in competition. And the only track that’s been run has been indoors. Spring sports are basically on hold.
Mother Nature made sure of that April 14-15. Instead of showers, moisture came in the form of snow – approximately 14 inches worth in the area. Cool temps aren’t conducive to the snow melting anytime soon, though forecasts call for temps in the 50s by the weekend.
“I know that all the athletes in all the spring sports are anxious to get out and apply their trade, but as she usually does, Mother Nature has the last word,” said Garrison-Max Head Track Coach Jason Ermer.
Ermer laments that as Garrison’s athletic director, scheduling this season has made him glad he wrote everything in pencil on his calendar.
“I do know one thing, when it eventually gets nice out, things are going to get very busy,” he said.
